Personal Background
BORN AND RAISED IN SOUTH DAKOTA. I was born in Rapid City and moved 9 days after that. Before resettling in Rapid City in 1980, I lived in the South Dakota communities of Gregory, Watertown, Lake Norden, back to Watertown, Pierre, Winner, Sturgis for high school and Spearfish for college. As you can see, I can empathize with buyers and sellers who are going through a move.
Family Of My Own
Married since 1984, my wife Julie and I have two wonderful daughters who have been fortunate to have been able to grow up in this wonderful area. Julie has had a successful sales career of her own as an agent for Prudential Financial since 1979. As a family, we have enjoyed camping and boating for many years. I also love pheasant and grouse hunting (with the help of my bird-dog Mojo) flyfishing, music and travel.
A Real Estate Pedigree
My father entered the Real Estate business in 1972. He purchased Morrison Real Estate which quickly became Martin Real Estate in 1974. I can remember driving him around to show ranches in Meade County shortly after I became old enough to drive. I also have family ties to new construction home building. I have two brother-in-laws, a sister and a brother who have been home-builders. Many of my high school and college summers were spent wearing a carpenters apron and pounding nails.
Professional
After two years in the insurance business, I became licensed in Real Estate. That was in March of 1985. I spent 5 years with Century 21 Mastercraft. While there, I received numerous awards and extensive training in many areas of the Real Estate business. I then joined Coldwell Banker, Lewis, Kirkeby, Hall in late 1989. Over the next 6 years, I enjoyed a very successful business period. At one point, I became the second highest producer in the Coldwell Banker office. At that time, I attained Elite status which was the highest level of recognition in the Coldwell Banker system. In 1995, I decided to pursue a business dream of a different sort. I became a small business owner when I opened Schlotzsky's Deli. After 5 successful years, we expanded to a second location in Rapid City, before selling the business in March of 2004.
Well Rounded Experience
The combination of my extensive real estate background and my experience as a multi-unit business operator make me uniquely qualified to handle a wide variety of real estate needs. I have experience in residential and investment property sales not only during a good market, but during a challenging market as well. They both offer their own unique scenarios. I also received considerable farm/ranch and land training. This was an area that my father specialized in. His connection provided an opportunity for me to move into these type of transactions. After gaining initial experience, I was able to continue to build the farm and ranch area of my business. The final phase of my well-rounded real estate experience was achieved when I became an entrepreneur with Schlotzsky's Deli. With the help and guidance of a publicly trained national company, I learned commercial based leasing and commercial real estate site selection. I also went through the process of selling my own small business. I can closely relate to the unique challenges that are involved in a business transfer. I have experienced this process and can relate to it as only one who has been through it can.
